3 Ways to Produce a Successful Newsletter for Your Tech StartUp

Getting the attention of busy business professionals can be difficult, but your newsletter can catch their attention effectively and successfully when you make your #newsletter a priority for your audience.

The goal here is for the newsletter to become part of your audience's daily or weekly routine. Do this by getting people to stop and think about the ideas you present as they read and throughout the day. Here's how.

Give an analysis of the news.

In the 1990s one of the highly acclaimed talk shows on television was the "Arsenio Hall" Show. One of his comedic segments was called "the things that make you go: hmmm?" This left the audience laughing and applauding at hilarious stories. It was one of the most popular segments of the show.

Well, when you analyze information and present to your audience the key to holding their attention is the approach. For example, do find the an incident alarming or exciting? Set the tone.

Next, decide the point of view at which the information should be told. For instance, do you understand the circumstances that the executive presented?

Some other questions to get your creative juices flowing include the following:

  • Are you in agreement with what a tech company did? Why or why not?

  • How do you think an executive’s opinion will change the way consumers use a product or service?

Do a deep dive into the latest trends and #marketdisruptions. Talk about how a new product or service will be used and its impact on the industry. Ultimately, you want to investigate "the whys" and "the what's next" from a unique perspective so your readers can walk away and say “what an interesting way to think about it.”

Hone in on a niche.

Show people what you know. I’ve found that when people have a passion for a topic they can address it with ease and a delightful enthusiasm that's contagious. Sometimes their charismatic approach is enough to lure you to the point that you become just as excited and interested.

Focus on your niche by talking about companies and personalities that shape the industry, conduct in-depth interviews, and provide continuous learning on the most complex topic within your industry as well as new challenging yet exciting topics. Your expertise and ease will allow you to take on a much lighter and engaging tone. You may even be able to incorporate some humor.

Consider how you want to present your newsletter.

Now this encompasses several topics. For instance, choosing a format that's either a news magazine or something more simplified. Keep in mind that getting too flashy with your presentation may end up becoming a waste of time. Of course you want to capture people’s eyeballs and give them a nice visual, but ultimately the newsletter boils down to the content.

Another question you will need to answer is how often you would like the newsletter to appear in your reader's inbox. Think about this. Once you take the vow to offer the newsletter daily, weekly, or monthly people will expect you to deliver.

Once you write your newsletter go back and read it to determine the amount of time it would take for your audience to read the newsletter. Also, consider the amount of time it would take for the individual to read the newsletter along with any supporting links.
